FROM About Town-Hudson Gazette April 23*
Sharon Weiner and her Hudson Dance Center are celebrating their tenth anniversary with a performance down memory lane. Decade of Dance will bring back choreographies, music and excerpts from each of the last ten years says Sharon. "When some of the adult dancers were just little girls, they performed these dances," she recalls. "Today, they are still being danced by the younger generation some of whom are the older girls' siblings."

Starting at the age of three, some of the dancers have been with Weiner for a long time; Mariah and Katie van Kessel, Samantha and Katherine Reusch, and Heather Bowser. A few of the returning Elites (who "retired" due to school, work etc.) have been dancing for more than ten years - Allison Prihoda, Jen Spencer, Chantal Mallette, Suzie de Bellefeuille, Amber Stoffmaker, Flip and Kika McNally.
To mark the tenth anniversary, over 150 dance students and Elite dancers from Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto and Hudson will perform at le Grand Théatre on the Cité des Jeunes campus in Vaudreuil on Sunday, May 4th at 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Tickets: $15.00 - call (450) 458-4251.

Hudson Dance Centre celebrates 10th anniversary
Over 140 students strut their stuff on stage at Cité des Jeunes

In the local world of dance, there is
one show that’s not to be missed. That’s the annual end-of-year extravaganza
staged by Sharon Weiner showcasing
her young students for whom
dance is not merely a hobby but rather
a way of life. It’s always a fun-filled
family affair full of fabulous routines,
superb syncronization, and gorgeous
costumes.
This year being the 10th anniversary
of her phenomenally popular
Hudson Dance Centre, expectations
were running higher than ever at Cité
des Jeunes, Vaudreuil, when Miss
Sharon and over 140 of her students
stepped on stage. And boy, did they
deliver! Entitled Decade of Dance, it
was a knockout from start to finish featuring
as it did, in effect, her professional
life’s work.
The special opening sequence featuring
some of her senior company
dancers was Cats from 2001 with
Weiner herself playing Grizabella. It
had the audience cheering and dancing
in their seats and it seemed they
never stopped.
In chronological order and through
such classics as And The Beat Goes On
(1999), Great Woman & A Few Good
Men, Lion King, Chorus Line, Love To
Dance through to the 2007 hit RU
Ready, the beat went on.
The dancers flowed on and off the
stage with ease, the curtains never
closed, and the energy was contagious.
As for Artistic Director Weiner who has
been involved with dance her whole
life having started at the age of three,
she was a vision of grace under pressure
when she performed not only
with her Elite dancers but also with the
ladies class and again with two of her
company classes – a total of 40 students
on stage at one time dancing to a
Michael Jackson medley.
Special mention should also be
made of the fantastic costumes, with
over 300 changes and each and every
one of them sewn by Weiner’s mother,
Elizabeth.
Commented one parent after the
show: «We, as a community, are
blessed to have someone so dedicated
to our children, who can offer such a
professional show year after year. It is
the icing on the cake for our kids!»
With the applause still rolling
around the theatre and seeing the
smiles on the faces of the young talented
dancers happy that they had given
their best that night, one could only
agree. Bravo to all and take a welldeserved
bow!
From Up Parryscope, November 22, 2006.
Speaking of dreams, choreographer-extraordinaire Sharon Weiner, celebrating the 10th anniversary of her Hudson Dance Center, is off to Toronto this weekend with 25 of her students to participate in the Dance Your Dream in the dazzling company of the world famous New York Radio City Rockettes. Driving there in three mini vans and accompanied by parent-chaperone, Katrina's mom Chantal Gerard, she told me that she was so delighted that three "retired dancers" will also be going along. Namely, Allison Prihoda, Jen Spencer and Erin McCarthy. Sharon, who is also busy choreographing some exciting dance numbers for Hudson's upcoming Panto Treasure Island, reported that they will all be attending the Rockettes' Christmas Spectacular on Saturday and then taking a workshop/class on Sunday taught by one of their legendary long-legged dancers synonymous with the high-kick chorus line renowned around the world.
